(Cat) Man Cave

They say “build it and it will come” right? Using that line of reasoning I recently invested in a 47″ flat screen TV and a new entertainment center.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m attempting to create a “Man Cave” with which to lure a suitor. Now I just have to figure out how to get the guys in my apartment in the first place!

My Man Cave

So while I was creating a Man Cave I decided it would only be fair to create a Cat Man Cave as well for the kitties (don’t worry, Haddie is an honorary member). A place with some privacy they could call their own and more importantly, a place to hide the litter box!

Enter the CATHOLE.

It got it’s name because it’s essentially a larger version of a mouse hole. Founders Jim & Carol Owens have a good sense of humor about the name saying, ” The name became the butt (excuse the pun) of many jokes by our friends.”

Cat Hole

Made 100% in the USA the CATHOLE comes in natural wood that can be used as-is or painted to create an accent as I did. It also comes with custom “name plate” stickers  (e.g, Cat Man Cat).

The CATHOLE retails for $34.95 (they ship internationally too!), and even comes with a brush you can place along the inside of the archway to brush any excess litter off kitty as he/she exits.

Litter Box Storage

Roxie, my foster at the time was the first one to eagerly check out the Cat Hole

Not having a spare closet in my New York City apartment, I was able to leverage the little storage area under my staircase.

I had a gentleman friend – sadly he only fell prey to the Man Cave temporarily-  cut the archway using a jig saw (you do have to take the door off the hinges). The cats took to it immediately. And since I rent, I kept the piece we took out so I can glue it back and paint over it when I move out!

Behind the CATHOLE door

To keep odors at bay since, the area I used has no ventilation, I added a Litter Genie and a “stick up” air freshener.  It’s also become a great place for me to store my extra litter and other cat accessories.

I was a tad worried about Petie being able to squeeze through it but at 17.5lbs (he lost 2.5, yay!) he has done just fine with it.

Modern cat friendly apartment

The CATHOLE works for even the “big boned” kitties in your life

I wasn’t able to capture a photo of Petie going through it but my friend has a similar looking and sized cat and I took a photo of him right after he left his CATHOLE (I couldn’t get to the camera fast enough to get his actual exist sadly).

Have any of you modified your homes to make them more attractive to the two and four legged men in your lives?! Do tell!
