Bobby is the Frank Sinatra of cats. I was at Petco dropping off my current foster when a volunteer came in carrying a cardboard carrier with a new delivery. When they pulled him out of the box his blue eyes pierced me from across the room. When I was up for a new foster, I requested him by name.
BC was clearly someone’s pet as he’d been neutered and was well socialized. He did however have floppy hind legs that slid out from under him causing him to fall down. Mind you this didn’t slow him down one bit and he had no clue he was “special needs” chasing around after my cats slipping and sliding as he went! I felt terrible laughing but on occasion he would try to jump onto a piece of furniture and falling short would smack into the side of it instead unfazed.
We were a tad nervous the floppy legs might be an indication of nerve damage or a neurological problem. Thankfully after a visit to the vet and an xray later (cat xrays are super cool – they have the tiniest vertebrae at the very tip of their tails) it was determined that the groves his kneecaps fit into were not as deep as they should be so the poor guys knee caps would literally pop out of place, causing him to fall down. It was a good diagnosis however, and he was prescribed supplements.
Being such a beautiful sweet cat, I was fortunate enough to keep BC in my life by having friends adopt him so I see him and get updates often. He’s living a wonderful life in the West Village where he loves to take strolls on his harness! And now he has a new brother Max also a rescue from Petco.
