Paolo’s Adventures: The Tale of a Very Brave Kitty is a wonderful children’s book about a real life kitty ginger kitty named Paolo who was one of a litter of four kittens rescued by the no-kill group MEOW Cat Rescue in Kirkland, Washington.
Paolo was born with a defect that made his chest concave. His ribs never developed to protect his heart and lungs, putting him in respiratory distress. Because of this he had to undergo surgery that required he be in a full body cast.
It’s a sweet story of how one kitten learns to be brave and trust humans, the very special foster mom who tends to him as he gets stronger, and the family who finally adopt sweet Paolo.
The story follows Paolo’s adventure from his perspective as he is first rescued (he thinks maybe kidnapped!) all the way through his surgery, recovery and the happy ending in which he finds his forever home!
Written by third grade teacher and MEOW Cat volunteer Carolyn Banguero (who’s also a mom to two cats and a dog), and wonderfully illustrated by cat-Mom Betsy Schairer, a portion of proceeds go back to help the animals of MEOW Rescue! Yay!
As one Amazon reviewer (John Garvin) so eloquently put it,”The story helps to make children aware we are not all born perfect but with love and help we can live a beautiful life surrounded by those who care and respect. ”
It’s not too late to purchase Paolo’s Adventures: The Tale of a Very Brave Kitty for a child (or just for yourself!) this holiday season. It would even make a great book to have at rescue shelters and schools to teach children how special differently-abled animals can be.
You can see more photos of Paolo all grown up on the Meow Rescue Facebook Page along with other photos from book readings and tours.
Many Paws Up for PAOLO’S ADVENTURES. We hope there is a Volume 2 coming soon!
