Foster Hall-o-Fame

About a year ago I started fostering cats for City Critters, the rescue organization through which I adopted my boys Kip and Petie. It all started because I was tempted to adopt another cat. Friends and family were adamant three was one too many (the cat tipping point so to speak).

At first the thought of bringing an animal into my home, getting to know it, love it, then give it up seemed impossibly painful. But on the contrary, fostering has brought me great joy. Adoptive parents often thank me for taking care of their baby and I get pictures and updates (well, if it’s a “open” adoption!). I’ve gotten know a range of cat personalities while providing them a break from cage-living or  time to recover from surgery so they’re ready for adoption.  Plus, it frees up a cage for another animal from the kill shelter.

I encourage anyone who loves animals to foster. It’s an easy fulfilling way to help out and fosters are always in demand. It’s perfect for the both the person who loves animals but can’t commit or the one with a brood who doesn’t mind an extra.  Arrangements might vary between organizations but in my case they are flexible about how often I want to foster.

I am certain I’m forgetting someone! You will recognize one of these critters as my Haddie! Yes, I am a failed foster but one out of 20+ can’t be THAT bad!
