While cruising around the Global Pet Expo last week in Orlando, FL, something caught my eye that stopped me in my tracks – pink litter. Not only was it pretty (yes I’m calling litter pretty!), but it smelled faintly of Aloe Vera!
It’s called Simple Solution 30 Day Super Absorbent Litter because that’s how long you can use it without changing it. It’s non-clumping, but I saw with my own eyes, that the urine has a way of being absorbed into the litter and when it dries out it’s back to it’s natural good ol’ pink state!
They tell me the secrete is the use of 100% attapulgite clay litter which has more surface area than the regular bentonite clay used in in most clay litters. More surface area wallows for more absorption – 300% more (of urine!) to be exact! It’s also supposed to be gentler on the paw pads thanks to the softness of it and the infused Aloe Vera.
I’ve normally stayed away from clay litter. There’s the weight of the litter, the dust and all the drama around how it’s excavated (meanwhile there’s drama around every cat litter out there – pine, corn – they all seem to be bad for the environment in some way or another so it’s hard to win!).
But two things I will say is that I didn’t notice a lot of dust, and it was much lighter than other litter (see photo below – same amount of litter by weight in each container). You get a lot more “pink litter” for your money! Which I guess would in term save you some bucks!
