Flashback Friday: Bubbles

I’d forgotten how fun the combination of cats and bubbles – particularly of the cat nip variety –  can be, until I saw the video of a cat playing with bubbles on Your Daily Cute earlier this week.  It reminded me of a photo I’d taken of Petie five or six years ago when he was just a wee one.

I love this photo despite the poor quality (likely taken with a flip cell phone). Just look at that face. So not a kitten face. I don’t remember his eyes ever being that yellow. Wonder what he’s thinking? What’s your guess? I’d love to hear!

Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you start thinking or talking about something unusual (like bubbles) it begins to appear every where? Or perhaps we’re just more tuned in because it’s top of mind?

Waking through Madison Square Park a few days ago I was delighted by the sight of gigantic bubbles! Yet another bad Blackberry photo, I know, I know, I need the iphone.

Turns out that the gentleman in the photo below, Edmond Leary, makes his living giving folks the opportunity to experience the joy of over-sized bubble making. He sets up buckets of bubble water along with an empty one for tips (he isn’t allowed to put up a “tip” sign). Anyone is welcome to step right up and play.

I’m glad I walked up to Edmond and introduced myself.  It wasn’t the easy thing to do. It would have been far easier to think about how nice it would be to stop and speak with him, but smile and pass by instead.

As I left I thought about how amazing it must be to have a job that involves making children laugh and jump for sheer joy. Maybe next time I’ll join them.

Looking through my photos for the baby photo of Petie, I came across a video from three years ago of Haddie, Petie and foster kitty Bridget having fun with bubbles (thought you’d appreciate the screen grab of Petie below!).

Oh Petie how you’ve changed (note: this was my apartment pre redecorating)
