An Award Winning Blog

I HAVE CAT is officially an award winning blog! I woke up today nervous that my post for the week was not complete only to learn I was the recipient of the “Honest Scrap” award.  Honest Scrap recognizes bloggers who “oftentimes put their heart on display as they write from the depths of their soul”.

Thanks so much to Glogirly for bestowing I HAVE CAT with this honor (check out her blog, you’ll love it ) and for giving me something to write about today!

The stipulations of accepting the award are as follows:

  • Highlight the award on your blog and link back to the person who bestowed the award to you (check!)
  • Post 10 interesting things about yourself
  • “Pay it forward” by presenting the award to 5-10 other blogs

I’m not sure how interesting these are but you probably don’t know them about me and might find them entertaining.

Hot violinist

1 – Band Camp (kind of): I started playing the violin at the age of 4 years and received a music scholarship to college but haven’t played the violin since graduation (sad I know).  Joshua Bell alone was good reason to pick up the violin.

2 – ESL: My first language was Armenian and I still speak at about a 3rd grade level.  In High School I tried to take the TOEFL* instead of the SATs but that didn’t fly (can’t blame a girl for trying).

*TOEFL = Test of English as a Foreign Language

3 –My Dr McDreamy: My celebrity crush is Dr Gregory House the character played by Hugh Laurie). It must be that “I’ll save you” gene women seem to have.

Hot doctor

4– Little Drummer Boy: For many years I only dated drummers and this was not necessarily a concerted effort. Sure in my teenage years I crushed on drummers (lead singers and guitarists were too obvious) but later in life I’d find myself on a date with a preppy guy only to find out he had a band or played the bongos.

5 – Eggs + Oil = Yum!: When younger (much younger) I used to eat mayonnaise straight from the jar by the spoonful. And no, Miracle Whip doesn’t count. Even today I love it on a sandwich or in tuna salad. But seeing that I’m considering going vegan, it might be time for this love affair to end.

It was recently “suggested” to me that my postings be shorter. So keeping that in mind I will refrain from posting all 10 “interesting” factoids about me and will leave this to be continued.

Passing the Torch:

Hopefully I’m not giving this to anyone who already has it, but getting the same award  twice can’t be too bad right?  In no particular order – –

  • Single Gal in the City - I’ve only recently discovered Melissa’s blog but she’s a single girl in NYC and she tells it like it is!
  • Little Cat Diaries - Tom Cox clearly doesn’t need my help because he has a book published in the UK titled “Under the Paw: Confessions of a Cat Man” (sadly not yet available state-side). I couldn’t help supporting a self-professed cat-loving man!
  • Old Cat’s Rule – This site is both fun and serious and celebrates the joy of life with a senior cat – which surprisingly includes any cat over 6 years old according to the literature (I’ve always wanted to say that!).
  • Lucky Fiona A company named after a very lucky dog called Fiona who was rescued from a kill shelter. Not only can you find stylish dog collars (I’ve seen a few on cats too) at this website, but Fiona’s owner has a great blog and she recently rescued a fourth lucky dog.
  • Albert the Cat’s Blog – Albert is a mancat who lives in London with his “poncy brother” and “stupid sister” (and 2 house staff of course).
  • Tabby’s Place - Tabby’s Place is a wonderful cat sanctuary in New Jersey that accepts even the most handicapped animals.  Their blog tells the stories of various cat residents and really gives you a sense of what a labor of love this is for all the amazing folks that work there.
  • Men and Cats – The title says it all

Hey T, nice to meet you! Concats on the Honest Scrap award. That Katie and Glogirly are really cool.

To answer the question you posted on our bloggie, yes, cats eye colors can change. My brother Raymond had blue eyes as a kitten and his eyes are golden now. Mine are still very blue, but the shade of blue depends on the kind of light the photo is being taken in.

We’re going to add you to our list of favorite blogs so we can visit more often.

    Purrs, Busby

    • Ihavecat

thanks for reading Busby – hope you check out some of my older posts and keep reading! i’ll be visiting you too!

  • Glogirly & Katie

    Nicely done, T!
I really enjoyed reading your interesting bits. And thanks for adding in some photos… I think it makes these things much more fun.

I had to laugh at your mayo obsession. My husband is about the same as you, maybe worse. The only rules he has for our house is that we never run out of toilet paper, underarm spray or mayo. In fact, tucked away in the cupboard, we always have a back up mayo and a back up for the back up.

Looking forward to the next five!

(I’m also going to check out the blogs you’ve passed the award onto…I like your taste so I’m thinking they will all be worth checking out.)

    • Ihavecat

Katie, tell GLogirly to email me, i added an email address to the upper right of my blog. You can email me too if you want :)

  • Freya

Concatulations on the award! You deserve it!

And I agree with Glogirly too, you have to have pictures, for the less clever cats reading, that skip the words, and only look at the pictures! :-)

    • Ihavecat

Thanks Freya! SOrry I didn’t write back to you sooner! Thanks for visiting! Purrs!

  • Nick

I’m a drummer! haha but you live in the frigid north lands

  • nancymauro

Congrats! Furry paw high-five on the way!

  • Cats of Wildcat Woods

Neat factos about you – we are new to your blog but will be back!

  • Kate

Thanks for stopping by, T : ) Cute award. Yes, I definitely wear my hear heart on my sleeve for this. Sometimes, (ok most of the time), I wonder why… but I still do it.. I’ll figure it out one day.

Have a good day!! I look forward to reading more of your thoughts.

P.S. I love your hair in your about picture!!

    • Ihavecat

Thanks Katie! Can you believe I randomly pinned my hair up and took pictures of myself utilizing my mirror b/c i wanted to see how my hair looked for a wedding i was attending. That would have prob been impossible to actually pose!

  • Lucy the Cat

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I enjoyed reading the tidbits about you. I didn’t see a reason to keep it shorter, but that’s just me. :)

    • Ihavecat

Thank you Lucy the Cat! I apprecate it!
Purrs from T, Kip and Petey!

  • Lisa Co9T

Congratulations on your award! Glogirly and Katie have good taste!

    • Ihavecat

      Thanks so much!

  • Reseller Hosting

Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!

    • Ihavecat

Thank you so much…i hope this isn’t spammy….i found you in my spam filter…..

  • Melvin and Zoey at Mouchois

I’ve got to say, I have a crush on House, as well! For an old guy, he’s totally hot!

    • Ihavecat

totally! OLD GUY?! okay, well…maybe so! I love that he is British but pulls off the American accent!

  • Daniela Caride

Omigod, I also ate mayo from the jar when I was a kid, I also have a celeb crush on House (even though the series was not out when I married my super-hot husband, who is a doctor), and I’m also working on going vegan – but for now the cheese is winning.

But in terms of mayo, you can always change for Vegenaise, Tamar. You won’t even notice the difference. It’s vegan, and it’s delicious, and it’s exactly the same taste as egg-based mayo. If you have a WholeFoods around your house, you’ll find it. Choose the blue-labeled jar.

    • Ihavecat

      That’s freaky Daniela!
I hear you on the cheese…..i will DEF try out Veganeaise, and maybe write about it on the “FLIRTING W/VEGAN” tab! Have to go to WholeFoods tonight as a matter of fact! I’m having Gina, from OldCatsRule over for dinner !funny huh!?

  • Rumblepurr

Well done on the award!!! We have the same rule in the house about mustard as you have about mayo, but it’s hard out here because it’s difficult to find proper (American) mustard! When we do find it, we stock up ;)

Winning awards is soooo much fun!!!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  • Rena

Hearty congratulations, Tamar, on this well-deserved award! I enjoyed your revelations, except that I gagged when I read about your love for mayonnaise. I detest mayonnaise. Good thing we both adore cats!!!! :-)
